Elipson 1303B

The history of Elipson is inextricably linked to its managing director, Joseph Léon.

Elipson was founded in 1948 by the great Joseph Leon. The brand has persistently developed the French and international acoustic technology. He is also known for the first spherical plaster and fibre speakers, which were marketed in the early 50s. The 4240 models have marked the acoustic history and are still reminiscent of the B&W 802, only thirty years earlier!

First among the first, Elipson started to create loudspeakers that were taller, thinner, to avoid diffraction at the edges, rather than wide and boxy. First among the first, Elipson pioneered non-symmetrical enclosures, symmetrical coupled charge, in-phase driver placements and many more patented engineering firsts. Exactly what the ultra-high-end makers do today - only this was 30 to 50 years ago..

Now the brand Elipson still exist, but without any relation with the initial compagny (Joseph Leon left is compagny aroud 1974).

The 1303B is the last creation of Joseph Leon before he left (1973, after there is a lot of different versions of 1303 but not always as good, except one another version), and I like this speakers, very modern with the symmetrical coupled charge, in-phase driver placements, internal resonateur for the medium, etc. Not easy to drive (82/83 db), not the most dynamic speaker but amazing in terms of natural ...

For information, the tweeter is a Yamaha in the B version, and there is two 13 cms in parallèle (16 ohms each), one for the medium and one for the bass.

It's not easy to find a site in English to discover Elipson, but I hope that this story makes you want to go further

The best site (in French) is :

The reference site with the good url : http://www.passion-elipson.com/

Unfortunately there is issues with some pages for the moment with the site.

Another link with a detail of the 1303 B (the same I own), with a large restauration in progress...
